Book Review: Infinity Son

Growing up in New York, brothers Emil and Brighton always idolized the Spell Walkers - a vigilante group sworn to rid the world of Specters. While the Spell Walkers and other celestials are born with powers, Specters take them, violently stealing the essence of endangered magical creatures.
Brighton wishes he had a power so he could join the fray. Emil just wants the fighting to stop. The cycle violence has taken a toll, making it harder for anyone with a power to live peacefully and openly. In this climate of fear, a gang of Specters has been growing bolder by the day.
Then, in a brawl after a protest, Emil manifests a power of his own - one that puts him right at the heart of the conflict and sets him up to be the heroic Spell Walker Brighton always wanted to be.
It was such a disappointment to read this book. I was looking forward to it after reading the previous books published.
There was no word building, no explanations, no background information, no details, none. Cliché after cliché. Some major eye rolling. Poor characterization, easily forgettable narrators. Adam’s narratives aren’t descriptive, as his other books, and tend to be heavy on the dialogue. I kept in getting confused each time with two brothers POV.
The first few chapter were rocky but after that story got interesting and than a few chapters later it became a hot mess. The book does have positive points, don’t get me wrong, firstly, it’s nice seeing a fantasy book with a gay main character. The book has a lot of other queer characters and people of color, which is such a beautiful thing to give recognition to. Infinity Son also touches on the subject of body image, which most people face nowadays.
“If someone had given me this book ten years ago, I would have eaten it up as twelve year olds tend to do.”
Adam disappointed us with the book that could have reached the skies. But I’m not holding it against him, people make mistakes. Just hope that he takes all the reviews to heart and deliver on the second book that is on it’s way.
